Tabebuia Chrysantha Seeds, Handroanthus Chrysanthus

Sowing **Tabebuia** (also called "trumpet tree") seeds is a common method for growing this tropical or subtropical tree, appreciated for its beautiful flowers. Here is a detailed guide to successfully sowing these seeds:

---

### **Materials required:**
- Tabebuia seeds.
- Light, well-draining substrate (mixture of potting soil and sand or perlite).
- Pots, seed trays or directly in a place in open ground (in areas with a suitable climate).
- Spray bottle or watering can with fine nozzle.

---

### **Steps for sowing Tabebuia:**

#### 1. **Choosing the time to sow:**
- **Under cover:** Sow in late winter or early spring for a controlled start.
- **In open ground:** Sow directly after the last frosts, in regions with mild winters.

---

#### 2. **Substrate preparation:**
- Mix light potting soil with sand or perlite to ensure good drainage.
- If you sow in open ground, loosen the soil well and make sure it drains well.

---

#### 3. **Sowing:**
- Place the seeds on the surface of the substrate. Tabebuia seeds are small and should not be buried deeply.
- Cover them with a very thin layer of substrate or simply leave them on the surface, pressing them lightly so that they adhere.

---

#### 4. **Germination conditions:**
- **Humidity:** Keep the substrate slightly moist, but avoid excess water which could cause the seeds to rot.
- **Temperature:** Seeds germinate best between **20 and 30 °C**. A mini greenhouse or a warm location can speed up germination.
- **Light:** Tabebuia seeds need some light to germinate, so don't bury them too deep.
- Germination typically takes **1 to 3 weeks**, depending on conditions.

---

### **Seedling care:**

#### 1. **After germination:**
- Once the seedlings are visible, place them in a bright location, but away from direct sunlight to avoid burning the young leaves.
- Remove any covers or plastic wrap to avoid excessive humidity.

#### 2. **Watering:**
- Water moderately to keep the substrate slightly moist, but let it dry on the surface between two waterings.

#### 3. **Replanting:**
- When the seedlings reach **5 to 10 cm in height** and develop several leaves, transplant them into individual pots or directly into the ground if the climate permits.

---

### **Transplanting into open ground:**

#### 1. **When to replant:**
- Replant young plants when temperatures are mild enough, usually in spring or early summer.

#### 2. **Location:**
- Choose a location in full sun with well-drained soil.
- Tabebuia prefers neutral to slightly acidic soil, but can tolerate poor soils.

#### 3. **Spacing:**
- Leave at least **3 to 5 meters** around each tree so that it can develop fully.

---

### **Maintenance after planting:**

1. **Watering:**
- Water young plants regularly to encourage rooting, but reduce watering once the tree is well established.

2. **Fertilization:**
- Tabebuia does not need much fertilizer. An annual supply of compost or a balanced fertilizer may be sufficient.

3. **Protection against cold:**
- Young plants are sensitive to frost. If you are in an area where winters are harsh, protect them with a winter fleece or grow them in pots to bring them indoors.

4. **Size:**
- Lightly prune the branches to form a beautiful tree or shrub, but let it grow naturally so that it develops its characteristic shape.

---

### **Additional Tips:**
- Tabebuia is suitable for tropical and subtropical climates. In temperate climates it can be grown in pots and brought indoors in winter.
- Some species, such as **Tabebuia impetiginosa** (pink flowering tree), are particularly popular for their spectacular flowers.
